GUWAHATI, July 29 Gauhati Town Club (GTC) rallied to hold Green Valley Sports Club 1-1 in todays match of the RG Baruah Super Division Football League under Guwahati Sports Association.

In a mediocre encounter on the first ground of the Nehru Stadium here, Green Valley, which lost their opening match against NF Railway Sports Association, went ahead in the very second minute of the match through George Prince. Festus Onoriode Johnayah squared the issue in the 57th minute.

Studded with foreign players, both the teams started on a positive note. But due to lack of adequate skills among the frontline players it became a mid-field game.

Green Valley players made a sudden move immediately after the kick-off and earned a flag kick in the second minute. Prince beautifully anticipated the flight of the ball sent by skipper Sanjeeba Rongpi from the corner and headed home beating all the Town defenders in the air (1-0).

After the goal, the Green Valley boys tried to dominate with more ball possession. Their midfielder Uttam Basumatary was quite agile and combined well with Prince, Sanjeeba and Clearence Carter Ezebube. But their hard work could not create passage to the Town goal.

Town striker Johnayah tried their hearts out to cruise in to the Green Valley goal area. He got some good support from his mates Shyam Murah, Forkpe Sumo and Khuanjeng Kamei. Their efforts were, however nullified by the well-balanced opponent defenders.

Finally, Johnayah drew parity with an eye-catching goal. Receiving the ball inside the box, the well build Nigerian made good use of his power and dragged the ball through two opponent defenders before bulging the net with a full-blooded drive.

Rising hold Jewel Star : In the Jibeswar Goswami A Division match Rising Eleven managed to end with 1-1 draw against Jewel Star Club.

Jewel Star took lead in the 31st minute through Shashanka Chanda but veteran Girindra Rabha netted the equaliser in the 88th minute.

Todays matches: (Super Div) NF Rly vs Dynamo; (A Div) Chandmari FC vs Abutani SC.
