GUWAHATI, Jan 12 � Gauhati Town Club edged past Santipur Athletic Club by one wicket in the opening match of the 12th Bud Challenge Cricket Championship for the Jugal Kishore Newatia Trophy at the Nehru Stadium here today.
Santipur, put into bat, were all out for 174 in 36.2 overs where Washiqur Rahman was the top scorer with 76, Sajid Khan was the other notable contributor with 49.
In reply GTC hit up 175 losing nine wicket in 38.2 overs. Simanta Neogi remained unbeaten with 71 while Deep Bora added 42.
The organisers, Bud Cricket Club today felicitated Abdul Robb and KM Ali for their contributions for the development of cricket.
