GTC boys emerge champs

GUWAHATI, May 11 � Gauhati Town Club (GTC) Cricket Coaching Centre emerged champions in the River Rine Club organised Jatindra Rabha and Renu Baruah Memorial 1st All Assam (U-16) Inter Coaching Centre Cricket Tournament.

In the two-day final played at the Latasil playground here, GTC CC defeated Santipur CCC by three wickets. Requiring 111 in the second innings on the final day, GTC scored 112 for seven. Earlier, Santipur scored 167 for nine in their second innings.

Suraj Goala of GTC, who took six wickets and scored an unbeaten 35 was adjudged man-of-the-match while Rohit Sarma of River Rine Club received the man-of-the-tournament award.

Biplab Saikia of Santipur and Abhirup Bhattacharya of GTC got the best batsman and best bowler awards respectively. Sahil Islam of Santipur received the best fielder award. Jitu Ali of Santipur and Abir Chakraborty of River Rine were given away the most promising player awards.

Brief scores: Santipur CCC 1st innings 95. GTC 1st innings 152.

Santipur 2nd innings 167/9 (Mehraj Ali 33, Sahil Islam 31, Abdul Islam 20, Sujit Goala 6/40).

GTC 2nd innings 112/7 (Sujit Goala 35 n.o, Wachir Ahmed 25, Mehraj Ali 4/23, Niraj Das 2/27).
