GTC Academy team disqualified

By Sports reporter

GUWAHATI, May 2 The Gauhati Town Club (GTC) Football Academy team has been disqualified from the Manchester United Club U-15 inter-academy football tournament which started today at Jamshedpur after it was found that the team had two over age players in its ranks. The Assam Football Association was shocked to hear of this development and secretary of the association Ankur Dutta said that if the GTC is found guilty then stern action will be taken against the club.

Dutta said, The incident is indeed shameful for Assam football and has tarnished the image of the State. Interestingly, Assam recently won the sub-junior national football tournament making Assam a powerhouse in football.

Three players of the team Nihal Das, Shyam Narzary and Moneswar Boro were sent for a MRI scan yesterday in Jamshedpur by the All India Football Federation. While, Nihal was cleared, the other two were found to be overaged. As per the rules of the tournament, if two members of a team is found overaged, then the team is automatically crashed out of the tournament. Dutta said that prior to departing for the tournament, he urged the GTC management to make sure that there are no overaged players in the team. The GTC on its part assured Dutta that it has done the required medical tests.

Incidentally, one of the overaged players, was found guilty on similar charges in last years edition of the tournament.
