GSU appeals for release of IB personnel

By Correspondent

TURA, Sept 29 - The Garo Students Union (GSU) on Monday condemned the kidnapping of IB official VK Singh and sought his immediate release from the captivity of the militants.

Singh was captured a few days ago from near the Panda Reserve along with a cloth trader.

GSU president Tengsak G Momin said, Keeping him in custody serves no real purpose. It just makes things terrible for Garo Hills where a Central Minister has dubbed it a Disturbed Area. The Disturbed Area status could bring into full execution of the dreaded AFSPA where regular violation of human rights could become an everyday occurrence, said Momin.

It will show the maturity of the rebel group who has in their custody the said person because such an action will bring to the fore their ideology to demand for separate statehood in a far better light than being just dubbed a terrorist group. This will also help in the long run, to identify the armed struggle as a genuine movement not concerned with forced custodies just because it can be done. I also appeal to the rebel group to please free him safe and sound, said Momin.
