Green Valley through to last-eight stage

By SPORTS REPORTER

GUWAHATI, Sept 19 Nagaland Police was no match for Green Valley Sports Club as they suffered a humiliating 0-4 defeat in a pre-quarterfinal match of the 63rd Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi Trophy Football Tournament.

At the Nehru Stadium here today, the Green Valley players took complete advantage of home conditions and registered a thumping victory. Before the Nagaland cops could settle down properly, the home team, runners-up of the recently concluded GSAs RG Baruah Super League Football Tournament, went 3-0 ahead in the 20th minute. The first session was completely under their domination and overpowered the opponent in all departments.

Defender Fayajuddin Shah beat the Nagaland Police custodian Vesetuo with a beautiful swerving shot off a set piece in the 11th minute. The second one was a gem of a goal. Receiving a defence splitting through from George Prince in the 19th minute, Michael Lucky dodged past two defenders and the goalkeeper before hitting the back of the net.

Just after one minute Green Valley skipper Shabir Ali made it 3-0. After the break George Prince completed the tally in the 74th minute with a soft goal. He got the ball from a free kick and gently pushed it into the goal. Nagaland Police strikers Sako, Atum and Chinwithwg missed some easy scoring opportunities otherwise it could have been an even match. The Nagaland Police frontliners hardly could match the speed of the Green Valley defenders.
