Green Valley set up title clash with GTC

By Sports reporter

GUWAHATI, July 14 A well-knit Green Valley Sports Club made it to the final of the Premier Agro Bio-Tech NN Bhatta Football Tournament with a comfortable 2-0 victory against Assam Police Blues in the second semifinal played at the Nehru Stadium here today.

In the summit clash on July 16, Green Valley will take on Gauhati Town Club (GTC).

Nigerian striker Michel Lucky Kelechukwu proved his worth again scoring both the goals for Green Valley. Michel struck the first goal in the 45th minute off a spot kick. In the 62nd minute, he enhanced the margin with an eye catching first timer from top of the box.

Green Valley striker George Prince was brought down by Police defender Kusha Rabha in the box which earned a penalty kick for Green Valley. Michel beat Police custodian Dulu Gogoi from the 12-yard spot with a firm drive (1-0). In the 62nd minute, Michel cruised into the Police danger zone with a solo effort and unleashed a full blooded drive which was studded with an element of surprise. The ball beat Police goalkeeper as he could not read the flight. Dulu should have punched it away as the ball flew into the goal very near to his left glove.

The Green Valley team was distinctly the dominating side today as they shared the ball for more time during the course of the match. The policemen also created some openings but their strikers Joseph Maslai, Karuna Gayary, Rishikesh Medhi along with medio Manoj Boro were far from the target.

Green Valley defenders today stood like rock and foiled all the Police moves with timely and firm tacklings. Their midfielders, baring Bijoy Borgohain, did a laudable job in the teams success. Sabir Ali and Gaiham Rongmei had good control over the ball at the middle third.
