Green Valley rally to beat ASEB, NFR win

GUWAHATI, Sept 11 � In a match of academic interest only, Green Valley Sports Club rallied to beat champions ASEB Sports Club 2-1 in their last RG Baruah Super Division Football League match of this season.

It was a well fought encounter at the Nehru Stadium here today with full of attacks and counter-attacks. ASEB went ahead in the very second minute of the match when William Gangte headed the ball into the net off a set piece taken by Ramsang Liana from the left flank.

The ASEB boys distinctly dominated the major part of the first session with some better collective effort. But the Green Valley forwards got back into the game in the later part with some goal-bound move. After changing over, the Green Valley boys started raiding the opponent territory riding on Mickael Lucky�s solo efforts. Lucky cruised into the ASEB goal area displaying his individual brilliance and got back the ball from his mate George Prince only to put it into net in the 62nd minute.

The Nigerian striker again beat the ASEB custodian Bishal Sahu in the 83rd minute with a powerpacked grounder. Receiving a forward pass from Thomson Langthasa, he unleashed a drive which got past the goalkeeper through his left side.

NF Rly win: NF Railway Sports Club got the better of Ganga Sports Club 3-2 in another match of the final day.

Kapil Daimary (18th minute), Sankar Sil (28th minute) and Chayaram Basumatary (61st minute) were the goal getters for the winning team while for Ganga John Nwoke (12th minute) and Andy Zachary (78th minute) netted one goal each.

ASEB already won the title capturing 23 points while Green Valley became second with 22 points. NF Railway (21 points) and Ganga SC (9 points) were placed at the third and fourth spots respectively.
