Green Valley hands 5-0 drubbing to Sunrise

By Sports reporter

GUWAHATI, Sept 9 - It was a goal feast at the Nehru Stadium here today as fancied FC Green Valley posted a 5-0 victory over Sunrise Athletic Club in the RG Baruah Super League Football match.

Sunrise defenders were totally outclassed by the well combined and fast moving Green Valley attackers from the very beginning. Green Valley went 2-0 ahead within 10 minutes of the game as Gaiham Rongmei punched the opening goal in the 7th minute. Just after one minute Nigerian George Prince made it 2-0 and scoring back to back in the 42nd minute he took the scoreline to 3-0.

Just before the break his Nigerian partner Michael scored the fourth goal for Green Valley and finally Michael hammered the final nail in the Sunrise coffin in the 57th minute.

The Sunrise defenders looked ineffective in preventing the opponent attackers as neither they could match the pace of Green Valley raiders nor they could balance themselves in front of their goal.

Particularly in the first session, the Sunrise defenders played like novices and before they could settle down, the team conceded two goals. Green Valley frontlines made good use of the spaces left by the Sunrise defenders in the first session. Gaiham, George and Michael in particular combined very well and penetrated through the Sunrise defence without facing any resistance.

Green Valley raised their points to 10 from five outings with three wins and a draw. On the other hand, Sunrise had to stay with four points from five matches with one win and a draw. They have lost three matches so far.

SAI-Rajbari play 1-1 draw: In the Jibeswar Goswami A Division Football League, SAI Sports Club played 1-1 draw against Rajbari Athletic Club coming from behind.

Rajbari went 1-0 ahead in the 24th minute through Tomba. But substitute Pulak Baruah levelled the issue in the 54th minute.

Todays matches: FCI vs ASEB (Super Div); Maharana vs Dynamo (A Div).
