Green Valley brace up for B Div I-League

GUWAHATI, Jan 30 � Local outfit Green Valley Sports Club, a unit of FC Green Valley Pvt Ltd is all set to step into the B Division I-League which will be kick started at Silchar on February 1. Green Valley will begin campaign on February 4 against Kolkata outfit Southern Samity.

Giving details about the preparation of the team club president Pulak Goswami said in a press conference here today, they have already included four Kolkata based players, Nigerians Ebami Nigi Louis, Salao Nuruddeen Olawale, Emananuel Ini Oyoh and Mohammedan Sporting custodian Naseem Akhtar for the team. Goswami said, as the club has fulfilled all the criteria for participating in the league the All India Football Federation (AIFF) has granted a place for Green Valley in the league.

AIFF vice president and secretary of Assam Football Association Ankur Dutta said, Green Valley became the second team of the State in the B Division I-League as for Gauhati Town Club it will be the second season. Dutta expressed his satisfaction over inclusion of Green Valley in the championship and hoped the city based club will be able to make a mark in the competition with some laudable show.

Gauhati Town Club is in the Cuttack group. The club has hooked in coach Mridul Banerjee, who has the experience of coaching all the three Kolkata giants apart from the Indian team.

Banerjee said that the team has enough potentiality but he did bot get adequate time to prepare for a big event. Praising local boy Apurba Phukan, Banerjee revealed this boy has the capacity to break any kind of defence. The coach hoped, with some favourable environment Green Valley can beat any team in the Silchar group.

Team captain Louis, who plays for Tollygunj Agragami in Kolakata, expressed his full confidence of doing well in the meet. Custodian Naseem Akhtar, who has represented the Indian team on several occasions and currently doing duty for Mohammedan Sporting, Kolkata believes the team is quite balanced as players are in nice form.

Green Valley Club secretary Ibocha Singh and Guwahati Sports Association general secretary Munin Nobis were also present in the press conference.

Singh said that the team was practising at the Sarusajai stadium with local boys for last few weeks. Teams in the Silchar group are-Ar Hima FC, Aizwal FC, Southern Samity, Eagles FC, United Sikkim, Bhawanipore FC, Green Valley SC.
