Green Tribunal ultimatum to State CS

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, April 9 The Kolkata-based Eastern Zone bench of the National Green Tribunal (NGT) has directed the Chief Secretary of the State to submit the status report on the bid of the State Water Resources Department to train the river Beki on the left bank and activation of the river Manas and Hakua at Mathanguri.

The NGT directive was issued in connection with the Original Application No 25/2014/EZ Rohit Choudhury Vs Union of India and Others.

The NGT said in its directive on April 6 that as a last chance the Chief Secretary, Government of Assam is directed to submit the status report within four weeks in terms of its directions.

The NGT also asked the Union Ministry of Environment and Forests to file an affidavit as a last chance by four weeks.

It needs mention here that the NGT had asked the Chief Secretary of the State on January 9, 2015 and February 13, 2015 to submit a status report on the issue. But the Chief Secretary has failed to respond in the positive to the NGT directive.
