Gowda arrives Imphal

IMPHAL, Nov 7 - Union Minister for Statistics and Programme Implementation DV Sadananda Gowda arrived here today on a two-day visit to Manipur to review the Central projects.

The Minister along with Central officials drove straight to State Economics and Statistics department premises to attend a State-level awareness programme on State strategic statistical plan which was also attended by State Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Minister Moirangthem Okendro.

Later, speaking to media, the Union Minister said development is the only relief for all issues being faced by the State including political issues. He said his Ministry is providing Rs 20 crore to the State for improving the statistical capacity and creating suitable infrastructure to strengthen the State statistical system.

Meanwhile, Union Minister for Women and Child Development Maneka Sanjay Gandhi and Union Railways Minister Suresh Prabhu are expected to visit the State on November 10 and 11 respectively.

Maneka is expected to review various schemes taken up by the State Government besides visiting various Anganwadi and Child Care institutes, while Prabhu is likely to lay the foundation stone of a safety tunnel (Tunnel No 12) and Portal No 2 for Jiribam-Imphal railway line, sources said.
