DIBRUGARH, July 2 � All flood-affected people who were sheltered in 35 relief camps in the district have returned to their homes, Assam Government spokesperson Pradyut Bordoloi told mediapersons today. He claimed that floods have subsided in the district.
The district was highest affected in the recent floods in terms of population and villages in the State. At least 92 revenue villages in the district were submerged and a population of about 66,000 including children were affected. Four had died in the flood-related incidents.
Addressing mediapersons at Circuit House here, Bordoloi said that three teams headed by Additional Deputy Commissioners have been assigned with the task of looking into all the post-flood threats, particularly pertaining to health. He said that government would ensure potable water, tarpaulin, foodgrains to the needy and fodder for cattles. �Government has taken steps to distribute bleaching powder, phenyle and halogen tablets to ensure pure drinking water, sanitation and prevent outbreak of epidemic like diarrhoea, malaria and other water-borne diseases,� Bordoloi said.
