GUWAHATI, Nov 10 The State Government is eager to preserve the memory of legendary musician Dr Bhupen Hazarika, but in consultation with the people.

Disclosing this, Government Spokesman and Agriculture Minister Nilamoni Sen Deka told this newspaper that Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi has already made it clear that the government will arrive at a decision on the issue of setting up an institution, like a university, in the name of the maestro later on after consulting the people.

The government is preserving the items used by the great artiste at the Sankaradeva Kalakshetra, Deka added quoting the Chief Minister.

On whether the adya shradha, the religious rituals performed for the first time praying for the eternal peace of a departed soul, of the artiste would be organised by the government, the spokesman said that the government is yet to arrive at a conclusion on the issue. However, it would soon arrive at a conclusion on the issue, Deka said.

Meanwhile, Asam Sahitya Sabha president Rong Bong Terang said the sabha is holding its executive meeting on November 13 to discuss, among others, as to what it needs to do in matters related to preservation of the creations of Dr Hazarika, who was also a former president of the sabha.
