Govt steps to make drinking water available

NAGAON, Jan 21 � There are 5000 schemes initiated by PHE in the State to provide drinking water, but they are either incomplete or non-functional. However, the Government has taken initiative for proper functioning of these schemes and also decided to form committees with local consumers for smooth functioning of the running schemes. This was stated by PHE Minister Gautam Roy while addressing mediapersons at Nagaon Circuit House on January 11.

Minister further said that it is true that officials of the department were responsible for malfunctioning of different drinking water schemes but in same cases public also responsible.

The minister was aware of the presence of floride and arsenic contaminated drinking water source in same parts of the State but now the Government is going to provide safe drinking water tapping alternative sources.

Attending the press meet, Nagaon MLA Dr Durlav Chamua informed a scheme amounting Rs 45 crore for providing safe drinking water of Nagaon public already submitted to NEC.

Minister inaugurated two water supply schemes at Senchuwa and Madhupur and laid the foundation stone for another scheme at Dakhinpat. Minister Roy also laid foundation stone of another scheme at Batadrava.
