Govt steps against graft hailed

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, May 31 - The Assam Real Estate and Infrastructure Developers Association (AREIDA) has hailed the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led government in the State on completion of its one year in office.

AREIDA president PK Sarma said that the association hails the bold initiatives taken by the BJP-led government against corruption. Extortion by public servants had assumed menacing proportions, he said.

The public in general and entrepreneurs in particular suffered the onslaught of these unscrupulous elements who amassed huge amounts of ill-gotten wealth which rightfully belonged to the impoverished and struggling population.

The self-respecting new generation entrepreneurs had lost faith in the government machinery due to the extremely humiliating conditions they faced while seeking statutory clearances and their anger found expression in the ever-increasing agitations and unrest on the streets.

To contain this dangerous trend, a good beginning has been made as evident from the number of such public servants who are already behind bars, said Sarma.

No state can prosper unless it gives respect and a supportive working environment to its entrepreneurs. Progressive states have grown due to the wealth and jobs created by their successful entrepreneurs who generated huge revenue for the government for developmental activities, he reminded.

He also called for drastic steps to improve work culture and delivery of services at government offices, which requires improvement and accountability of the dealing officials concerned.

The government also needs to control the galloping costs of construction material like cement, sand and chips, Sarma said.
