GUWAHATI, June 17 - The State government, in association with the Department of Horticulture and Food Processing, is looking for avenues to turn the Centre of Excellence for Vegetables and Flowers, located at Khetri on the outskirts of the city, into a self-sustainable unit.
The centre acts as a demonstrating unit with the world�s latest technology from Israel, the Netherlands and other countries.
VS Bhaskar, Additional Chief Secretary to the State government and Agricultural Production Commissioner, along with Prabin Hazarika, Director of Horticulture and Food Processing, visited the Centre on Saturday and observed its state of operations.
They reached a conclusion that in order to extend its benefits to farmers, the development of high-quality techniques must be incorporated in the centre and demonstration of the same must be done to increase farmers� knowledge base.
The centre provides the latest method of farming with newly innovated technology through which the farmers can learn and adopt the method of farming, training to cultivate and marketing of their produce with a minimum investment.
During the visit, Bakul Saikia, Senior Agricultural Development Officer, and Bipul Das, in-charge of the Centre of Excellence for Vegetables and Flowers, were also present and took part in the technical discussion.
