GUWAHATI, Aug 11 - A magisterial inquiry has been instituted into the alleged rape of a 19-year-old woman by two Army personnel on the intervening night of August 9 and 10 in a village under Kasugaon Police Station in Kokrajhar, said Minister Rakibul Hussain, who was replying to a question by MLA Pramila Rani Brahma (BPF) on behalf of the Chief Minister, who also holds the Home portfolio.

Brahma today demanded an inquiry by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) into the incident, reasoning that such incidents had taken place earlier too. It has been alleged that the Army personnel, not finding a suspected NDFB cadre, dragged his wife from inside the house and molested her on the premises of a school.

Hussain said the statement of the victim, who was eight-month pregnant, had been recorded and the magistrate had been asked to submit the inquiry report within seven days.

After the incident came to our notice, the Home department has gathered the information. The Chief Minister has immediately requested the Army to inquire into the matter and take appropriate action, Hussain told the State Assembly.
