Govt officer �forges� land documents

HAILAKANDI, Aug 3 - A section of people, mostly peasants in several villages of Algapur Revenue Circle in Hailakandi district are in serious trouble after they found that the land pattas issued against their names are forged and missing in the government record.

In a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner of Hailakandi, Bengali Student and Youth Front (BSYF) held the record keeper of Algapur settlement office, Dilip Kumar Das, responsible for making false documents. They demanded a magistrate enquiry into the entire process of issuing false land pattas to the people.

The people also wrote a complaint letter to the Settlement Officer of Cachar and Hailakandi districts mentioning their problems. The memo alleged that the record keeper falsely issued innumerable land pattas in the names of people of Barniebrease grant, Palarpar, Panchgram, Chandipur part I and II, Chandipur grant, Kalinagar part II, Badarpur grant and Dhalidahar grant areas of Algapur circle.

The officer allegedly made five bighas of government ceiling land as 50 bighas, nine bighas as 49 bighas with false records. Besides, 300 more myadi pattas land have been issued by Dilip Kumar Das without proper records, it added.

The locals expressed serious concern over the inaction of Hailakandi district administration against the persons involved in the irregularities.

The MLA of Algapur, Nijam Uddin Choudhury, demanded immediate measurement of all the government ceiling lands to ascertain the actual quantity of forged documents made against the government ceiling land in these areas.

Meanwhile, three cases have also been filled against Dilip Kumar Das in this regard.
