Govt must make plans for space research studies in NE: Dr JN Goswami

By Arindam Gupta

SILCHAR, Nov 5 - Assam and whole of North East is brimming with potential for research in space technology and the Government must come up with a programme which would get support from the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), feels Dr Jitendra Nath Goswami, advisor to Indias second Moon Mission Chandrayaan II.

Talking to The Assam Tribune on the sidelines of his recent visit to the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Silchar, Dr Goswami said, there are a lot of people from Assam and North East working in different capacities at the ISRO. However, people in this part of the country must be given proper training on space technology. The State government must chalk out an action for the cause and it would get all assistance from the ISRO.

This will help to bring more talents from North East into the organisation. He was quick to inform that rounds of talks are being initiated with the Government to augment the process.

The principal scientist of Chandrayaan I spoke on the dimensions with which the ambitious moon mission had forged ahead and informed that the country would soon have a mission on the Sun.

We achieved much beyond our expectations with Chandrayaan II and I believe there would be more attempts on it in the future. We are working on a satellite which could be sent to the solar orbit to fetch information about the sun, Dr Goswami maintained. In his words, efforts are being made to get maximum information for people on planetary activities and remote sensing.
