Govt mulling free mobile phones

KOKRAJHAR, Nov 14 � In his maiden visit here recently the Minister of Social Welfare, Akon Bora said that the Government is seriously considering execution of schemes for distribution of free mobile phones and pension benefits to Anganwadi workers in the State to facilitate the services rendered by them. At the same time, he pointed out that Anganwadi workers have to work under the strict guidelines of the Government. Stern action will be taken in case of any negligence or dereliction of duty.

He also said that the Department of Social Welfare in the State has already taken up around 100 projects for the welfare of children under the ICDS and many of them are in progress satisfactorily. Bora was speaking as the chief guest at the ceremonial function held to distribute bicycles for Anganwadi workers under various ICDS projects in BTC at the DN Himatsingka High School playground here.

At the same time, the minister reiterated that his visit here after a long gap of seven years made him feel good as under the leadership of the Chief Minister, several developmental projects in Assam are under way all through the State in a remarkable way and similar progress has been taking place under the leadership of Hagrama Mohilary in the BTC area.

Speaking on the occasion, BTC chief Hagrama Mohilary maintained that Anganwadi workers play a major role in implementing the government schemes for the welfare of people. In the BTC, they constitute a social force to bring benefits for children and weaker sections of the society. He also made it clear that better facilities to Anganwadi workers would definitely encourage them to discharge their duties and responsibilities in a sincere manner.
