Govt move to expedite pension claims

GUWAHATI, Dec 19 � With a view to expediting the disposal of pension scheme and to enable the retired citizens to receive their retirement benefits immediately after their superannuation, the Government of Assam has taken some key initiatives.

The Government of Assam, after taking a serious note of the hardships faced by the retired government servants due to the delay and complicacies in the settlement of their pension cases, has instructed all administrative departments/ heads of departments and other authorities concerned to issue provisional pension/ provisional family pension and death-cum-retirement gratuity to all retired employees admissible as per rules for the initial one year before submitting the pension papers to the Accountant General, Assam and the Director of Pension, Assam.

For prompt disposal of pension cases and to avoid complicacy and to ensure timely settlement of the same, the Pension and Public Grievance Department has prepared and adopted a simplified proforma capturing of all essential information regarding retirement of government servants during the next five years with effect from 1-1-2012 to 31-12-2016 indicating the number of government servants to be retired year-wise.

Similarly, all administrative departments have been instructed to submit consolidated statement on the basis of the report received from the concerned heads of departments/district offices as per prescribed proforma. As regards to the information of the retirees prior to 1-01-2012, the same have been further instructed to furnish an update report for the appraisal of the Chief Minister.

Moreover, all administrative departments, heads of departments and the heads of offices of the districts have been instructed to appoint a nodal officer within January 15, 2012, to supervise the matter and to keep in close touch with the competent authority to expedite the function of the government within specified time. The nodal officer will be responsible for any delay and discrepancies occurred in submission of pension papers of all the retirees in all aspects. It may be mentioned that the nodal officer of the administrative department will be of a stature not below the rank of deputy secretary/ joint secretary, while the deputy director/joint director of the heads of departments and the heads of offices of the district offices will act as nodal officer for the purpose.
