Govt ignoring farmers in State: KMSS

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Jan 22 Accusing the State Government of totally failing to address the concerns of the farmers especially in the matter of ensuring due remunerative prices against their produce the Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) today demanded that the Government set up paddy purchasing centres in all the 2,400 panchayats of the State.

KMSS general secretary Akhil Gogoi said that in the event of the State Government not being able to set up paddy purchase centres in the panchayats, it should either ensure government procurement of paddy from the farmers or ensure that private parties purchase paddy from the farmers at the minimum support price of Rs 1,080 per quintal.

Gogoi said that it would stage a State-wide protest demonstration from 11 am to 1 pm on January 24 in all the district headquarters of the State and also in the FCI offices demanding fulfillment of its demands.
