Govt has failed to maintain law and order: SGBG

By Staff reporter

GUWAHATI, July 12 Asking the State Government to take a firm stand towards solving various burning problems of the State, the Save Guwahati Build Guwahati (SGBG) today alleged that various incidents in the past few days prove that the Government has completely failed in maintaining law and order in the State.

The Government would now have to convince the people of the State that they are safe in the regime of the present Government. No one can take law into their hands and if someone tries to do so, he should be strictly punished, SGBG president Dhiren Baruah said.

Condemning the incident of the attack on a girl on the GS Road recently, Baruah said that such incidents should not be taken lightly and the miscreants should be severely punished. The law and order situation of the city should also be strengthened to avoid such incidents in the future, he added.

The attack on KMSS leader Akhil Gogoi in Nalbari is another condemnable incident. The physical attack on Gogoi is against the principles of democracy. The Government should immediately arrest the culprits and punish them for this act, he added.

Also raising the issue of MLA Dr Rumi Nath, Baruah mentioned that a section of people are trying to create a law and order problem over the issue in the Barak Valley, which should be stopped at any cost. The Government would have to take strong measures to spoil any attempt of disturbing social harmony, he added.

Asking the Union Government to extend strong support to the flood-affected people of the State, the SGBG said that all political parties, social organisations and individuals should come forward to help the people in need.
