By Sobhapati Samom

IMPHAL, May 20 Manipur Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh today said that the State Government has been insisting for a CBI inquiry into the mysterious death of Manipuri student Richard Loitam in Bangalore last month.

Ibobi made his comment while speaking to reporters who sought his reaction on Manipur Governments stand on the death of the architecture student in his hostel room in Bangalore on April 18 this year and subsequent investigations, on the sideline of a tree plantation programme in the State capital this afternoon.

He further said that his government has been communicating with the Karnataka Government from time to time and they are further examining it as they couldnt spell out anything yet.

The Chief Ministers comment came a day after representatives of six Manipur student organisations stormed and tried to lock up the political party offices in Imphal last afternoon in Imphal over their alleged inaction into the recent death of Manipuri students outside the State.

General Secretary A Thoithoi of Democratic Students Alliance of Manipur speaking to reporters last afternoon made it clear that they want a CBI probe into the recent death incidents.

Meanwhile, BJP Manipur President Sh Shantikumar Sharma has airdashed to Bangalore to meet Karnataka Chief Minister Sadananda Gowda and Karnataka BJP chief KS Eshwarappa and apprise them of the situation in Manipur in the wake of the death incident of Richard Loitam and urge them to institute a CBI inquiry into the incident.
