Govt flayed over city water-logging

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Oct 22 Coming down hard on the State government for the citys worsening water-logging problem, the All Guwahati Students Union today said that the common people were bearing the brunt of the inefficiency of the authorities entrusted with the job of maintaining the citys civic amenities.

In a statement, the AGSU said that the government continued to maintain a shocking silence even after water-logging had assumed unprecedented dimensions as reflected by Fridays deluge following an hour of rain.

Rains render Guwahati a veritable hell and the people are suffering because of the utter lack of planning, vision and implementation on the part of the State government and its various departments and agencies. The government should stop drum-beating its invisible development and initiate concrete measures to address the menace of water-logging, it said.

The Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba-Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) also lambasted the government over Fridays water-logging, saying that it had become a routine to see the city reeling under water in the event of a single burst of shower.
