Govt declares State mourning, holiday today

GUWAHATI, Nov 29 � The Assam Government has declared November 30 as a state holiday as a mark of respect to Jnanpith Award winner Mamoni Raisom Goswami who breathed her last at the Gauhati Medical College Hospital this morning. A press note also announced that a three-day state mourning begins today.

Governor JB Patnaik has condoled the death of Goswami and rushed to her Gandhibasti residence straight from Borjhar Airport, after his arrival at the city from Bhubaneswar, to pay his last respect to the noted writer.

Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi also mourned the death of Goswami. In a condolence message, the Chief Minister said that the death of Goswami is an irreparable loss to the world of literature.
