�Govt committed for development of sports�

SILCHAR, Sept 8 � The Union Government is committed towards development of sports in the country and the Sports Ministry will take all possible measures to improve the infrastructure to help the athletes and sportspersons take India to the zenith of success in the domain of games and sports said Union Minister of State for Sports Sarbananda Sonowal.

Sonowal was given warm reception and felicitation by the Table Tennis Club of Udharbond at the club�s indoor campus on Sunday.

Speaking on the occasion, Sonowal said the government is focused on development of sports to help the athletes to perform better in the bigger stages like the Olympics, the government is coming up with schemes like National Sports Talent Search which will give the junior level sportspersons training with better technology and equipment.

Lauding the efforts of the TT Club in coming out with such a well designed indoor complex, Sonowal said that only a stadium will not help bring laurels to the country and the valley, other allied facilities like better coaching and improved training are also vital for better results. �I am happy with the way the stadium has been made. But continue the efforts in making the other fundamental factors available for improved performances by the players,� he said. Meanwhile, in response to a letter given to him by Pranabananda Das, the former secretary of the club, Sonowal said as the model code of conduct is on, he will not make any statement but assured that he would discuss the issues.
