Govt asks varsities to submit reports

GUWAHATI, Feb 28 � The State Government today requested the university authorities of the State to send their individual detail project reports (DPRs) on fund requirements, developmental plans, etc. for the purpose of enabling the Government to firm up its position. The Governor and the Education Minister of the State made this appeal to the Vice-Chancellors (VCs) and their representatives at a meeting held at Raj Bhawan here today, Raj Bhawan sources said.

In the meeting, the Vice-Chancellors and their representatives raised the issues concerning their fund requirements, construction activities, pension and arrear dues of their teachers, officers and employees and extension of the retirement age of their teachers to 65 years, among others.

The Government told the VCs and their representatives that it has been studying the issue of extension of the retirement age of the university teachers and it would come up with a decision on the issue after discussing it in the Cabinet.

The Government also requested the VCs and their representatives to engage their respective registrars for liaising with the Government on their development projects and fund requirements.

The Assam Agricultural University (AAU) authorities were assured by the Government steps to fill up vacant posts of employees for expediting the process of implementation of their schemes, sources said.

The meeting was attended by the VCs of the Tezpur University and Assam University, besides the state sector Gauhati University, Bodoland University, Assam Rajiv Gandhi University of Cooperative Management and the KK Handique Open University.
