Governors help sought to ameliorate plight of NCHAC

By Correspondent

HAFLONG, May 21 - Demanding dissolution of the present executive committee of NCHAC and taking over the administration by the Governor till holding of election, the local AGP unit staged a sit-in demonstration in front of the office of the Deputy Commissioner of Dima Hasao at Haflong on Monday.

The AGP also demanded non-extension of the NCHAC executive committees term any further, but to hold election, which was due.

Seeking immediate intervention on the matter of North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council, a representation was submitted to the Governor of Assam through the Deputy Commissioner of Dima Hasao.

The representation was signed by Bokul Bodo, president, Khawvelthang Hmar, general secretary, Debojeet Thaosen, former CEM of MAC, NC Hills Autonomous Council, Prakanta Warisa, Ex-MP, MAC of NC Hills Autonomous Council, Lalropui Hmar, Aditna Haflongbar, general secretary of Asom Mahila Parishad, Dima Hasao District Committee, Provojit Naiding and general secretary of Asom Yuva Parishad, Babulu Johori.

They maintained that the term of the present executive committee of N C Hills Autonomous Council will expire soon and the 12th executive committee should be constituted on or before June 3 next, through there is precedent of attempting to extend the term of the executive committee by citing irrelevant excuses and pretexts. Such action will only be seen as attempts of debarring right to franchise of the citizens of the district, which they strongly opposed.

The Dima Hasao district committee of AGP demanded immediate dissolution of the present executive committee led by Debolal Gorlosa, CEM of NCHAC and taking over charge by the Governor till formation of a new executive committee after conducting fresh election.

It may be mentioned that the NC Hills Autonomous Council has been going through a rough patch since its inception in 1952. The employees had not been paid their salaries for the last 10 months. To restore faith of the public of Dima Hasao district in general, the AGP urged the Governor to initiate prompt action for finding a lasting solution to the problems plauging the NCHAC.
