Governor to attend NIT Conclave 2017 in Silchar

SILCHAR, Aug 30 - Assam Governor Banwarilal Purohit will grace the 7th NIT Conclave to be hosted by the National Institute of Technology (NIT), Silchar from September 1. This was informed by Prof Rajat Gupta, director of the institute.

�Fostering the theme � �Transients in Technical Education � Research, Innovation and Entrepreneurship�, the vision of the NIT conclave is to set a benchmark for the creative solutions to the problems faced by the society through careful and comprehensive discussion. NIT Silchar takes the pride of hosting the seventh version of the event. We expect participation of more than 200 students from 31 NITs of India and Governor of Assam has given his consent to attend the inaugural ceremony,� Prof Gupta said.

He was quick to add that other luminaries like Dr Subramanian Swamy and Indian cricketer Yuvraj Singh are likely to attend the three-day mega event.�

On the other hand, in reply to a question on extending support to Cachar Paper Mill under the Hindustan Paper Corporation, the solitary industry of the region, the chief patron of the conclave said �NIT Silchar has the will and the resources to offer technical assistance to solve the issues at the mill. But since none from the Cachar Paper Mill has approached the institute, the issues have remained unattended so far.� He was quick to add that the NIT authorities, being an institute�that has a record of responding to the social concerns, also could not reach out to the paper mill at Panchgram. A separate session will be organised involving the Cachar district administration, Silchar Muncipal Board, Cachar police and other concerned departments to discuss and chalk out technical solutions regarding the mill and other�problems faced by the city and its adjoining areas. �We have plans to organise a session to discuss the burning issues in and around the society during the conclave,� the Director maintained.�

Meanwhile, Pranshu Kumar Gautam, the lead convener of the conclave informed that the ensuing occasion will bring an opportunity for NIT Silchar to showcase as many as 18 products like surveillance drones, obstructions avoiding robots made by the techie students of the institute before students and faculty staff of other NITs of the country. Prof MA Ahmed, patron of the conclave and Dr Wasim Arif, faculty convener of the event have urged the student fraternity for their active participation to make the event successful.
