Governor pays tribute to Dr John Berry White

DIBRUGARH, Nov 9 � Assam Governor Janaki Ballabh Patnaik paid respects to Dr John Berry White, the great philanthropist and founder of modern medical education in the region by offering floral tributes at the bust of Dr Berry at the Assam Medical College and Hospital here on Friday.

A huge bust of Dr John Berry White was unveiled on the occasion of 68th foundation of the medical institution on November 3. AMCH is said to be the brainchild of Dr John Berry White, who had initially started a medical school.

The Governor also addressed the faculties, students and staff of the medical institute at the Dr John Berry White auditorium. He said that the welfare of the people in the health sector largely depended on the service of the medical fraternity. He called upon them to render their services with commitment and a spirit of sacrifice.

AMCH principal Dr AK Adhikari expressed his gratitude to the Governor for sparing his valuable time to address the students and faculties of the college. The Governor, who is also monitoring the construction works of the multi-crore Jagannath Temple at Khanikar, visited the site on Saturday morning. The temple is expected to be inaugurated in the first week of December.
