Governor pays maiden visit to BTAD

KOKRAJHAR, Feb 25 � In his maiden visit to the BTAD, Governor PB Acharya stressed upon �a human touch� to governance in the greater interest of serving the people in a true sense.

Talking to mediapersons here on Tuesday at the Kokrajhar Circuit House, the Governor emphasized on the clear vision of the government so that it can effectively render services for the development of the area.

He spoke about some crucial problems of the Northeast like insurgency and large-scale corruption, which have eaten into the very fabric of the region. It is now high time to fight against those evils with a positive mindset and transform the region into a prosperous one, he said.

He reiterated that there are possibilities of deprivation and inequalities, but �we must understand that the fruits of Independence are yet to be equally distributed among the people.� And for this, �we need to work hard with concerted effort,� he added.

He further emphasized that at present education, electricity and employment are necessary for any development initiative to be taken up by the government and �there is no other option but to improve our human resource capabilities.� For this, the Governor called for introduction of new courses on skill development and capacity building at the university as well as institution levels.

Moreover, he mentioned that a social revolution is the need of the hour to change the mindset of the people towards development and, for this, the Sahitya Sabhas of various linguistic communities can play a great role.

The Governor also took part in the Swachh Bharat Abhijan programme at Kokrajhar town. He also held discussions with BTC chief Hagrama Mohilary, officials of the BTC, leading citizens and riot-affected family members, among others.
