Governor inaugurates Sanskrit seminar at GU

GUWAHATI, April 2 - Governor Banwarilal Purohit inaugurated a two-day seminar on Sanskrit on the topic �Sanskrit � its present state and future in Assam� at the Phanidhar Dutta Memorial Hall of the Gauhati University here today.

Attending the function as a chief guest, which was organised by Sanskrit Bharati Assam, the Governor said that Sanskrit is an important subject that not only enlightens, but also enhances one�s knowledge base. He called upon the students to use this subject to become wise, and at the same time, as a tool to know our rich antecedents.

He also said that Sanskrit is a language that has a prominence in the land of Assam which is predominantly a confluence of all sacred saints and gurus.

Speaking on the occasion, Vice Chancellor of the Tezpur University Mihir Kanti Choudhury also emphasised the need of including Sanskrit in the school curriculum. He also pointed out a definite connection between science and Sanskrit.

The Governor assured all support to Sanskar Bharati in taking Sanskrit to great heights and wished success in all its future endeavours.

Director of Sanskrit Promotion Foundation, New Delhi, Chand Kiron Saluja, Dr Dibyajyoti Mahanta, president of the seminar organizing committee, organizing secretary, Sanskar Bharati, Bhaben Saikia and a host of other dignitaries were also present in the function.
