Governor holds review meeting with VCs

By Raju Das

SHILLONG, Nov 5 Meghalaya Governor KK Paul today held a review meeting at the Raj Bhavan with Chancellors and Vice Chancellors of private universities urging them to uphold the dignity of these highest seats of learning.

The Governor held the meeting in his capacity as Visitor to these private universities. The State Government was represented by the Principal Secretary Education.

The Governor urged the universities to realise that a university is the highest seat of learning and as such should hold a place of esteem in the eyes of the citizens and the students. Paul further urged the heads of the universities to create a conducive academic atmosphere in the campus.

Sufficiency of basic infrastructure including library, journals and laboratories for science and technical courses, research and publications, sports and cultural activities are vital to the making of a good university and lead to a positive branding of the institution, Paul said during his meeting.

Emphasising that the universities should be able to impart quality education through well reputed and well qualified faculty, Paul said, there is a particular need for introducing innovative courses in the tertiary sector, so as to suit the young boys and girls of North East and specifically Meghalaya.

This will ensure that the students of this State do not have to go out to other areas of the country, for higher studies. The courses should be such that after the completion of the studies, the students should become readily employable, he stated.
