Governor condemns Silapathar incident

GUWAHATI, March 8 - Assam Governor Banwarilal Purohit has expressed grave concern over the vandalism wherein the All Assam Students� Union office was ransacked at Silapathar.

In a statement on Wednesday, Purohit said, �Ransacking the AASU office in Silapathar is an act of cowardice. I condemn the act.� He also said that the perpetrators of the incident will be dealt with sternly.

Purohit appealed to everybody not to take law in their hands and display absolute restraint. He also urged upon all to maintain peace and harmony to strengthen Assam�s pride of being a multi-ethnic, multi-cultural, multi-lingual and multi-religious society, an official release stated.
