GUWAHATI, April 13 - Governor Prof Jagdish Mukhi and Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal greeted the people of Assam on the occasion of Rongali Bihu and Assamese New Year.
Conveying his warm greetings, Governor Mukhi said, �Let this Bihu, which marks the advent of Assamese New Year, be a harbinger of a new dawn of warm and harmonious relationship and peace, prosperity and progress in the State�.
The Chief Minister, wishing people joy and prosperity on the occasion, said that the festival was an occasion to foster unity and cohesion in the society. He asked the people of the State to strive together and work hard to take Assam on the newer heights of growth and development.
Celebrating his first Rongali Bihu in Assam this time, the Governor interacted with media persons today at Raj Bhawan. �As part of my Bihu celebrations, I planned to hold this interaction to know more about the festival, the rituals and customs associated with it,� Professor Mukhi said while interacting with the media persons.
The Governor expressed hope that the celebrations of Rongali Bihu reinforce love and goodwill among all sections of people and strengthen the bond of unity and bonhomie among them. �Let this Rongali Bihu and the Assamese New Year be a reason for the people of Assam to take a pledge for a �Swachh Bharat� and �Swachh Assam�, he added.
The Sadou Asam Karmachari Parishad also greeted the people on the occasion of Rongali Bihu.
