Governor calls upon youth to take up dairy farming

JAGIROAD, Aug 25 - Assam Governor Banwarilal Purohit today ceremonially released a vision document of the Sitajakhala Cooperative Milk Society in a public meeting held on the occasion at the society office premises at Amlighat near here.

�The Vision 2020, Sitajakhala�, prepared and proposed by the Cooperative Milk Society, envisages to start a number of convergent activities aimed at empowering the local rural economy by creating opportunities for gainful self-employment.

Addressing the gathering which also saw the presence of several prominent social activists, planners, educationists and journalists, the Governor lauded the role played by the Cooperative Society since 1958 in organising all the small milk producers in and around the area and thus setting an example that can be emulated by others.

Purohit expressed hope and confidence that the society would be able to make successful implementation of all its plans and projects.

He, in his address, especially called upon the youths and the women of the district to take up dairy development initiatives in right earnest as an alternative to the conventional concept of farming and agriculture.

Another speaker in the meeting, Mahendra Ahom, former registrar of Tezpur University and also the founder principal of the Jagiroad College, while narrating the rich history of the Cooperative Society, said the present generation should continue to carry on with the �white revolution� in the State.

Few other prominent speakers also spoke on the occasion.
