Governor calls for use of khadi products

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, May 2 - Governor PB Acharya has appealed to all to use khadi products.

In a message, the Governor referred to the appeal by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the people of India during his Mann Ki Baat programme on October 3, 2014, for using at least one garment of khadi, and said that this would help the poor artisans a lot.

After the PMs appeal, use of khadi has increased by almost hundred per cent, which clearly demonstrates the relevance and desire for khadi products. Modi jacket/kurta has also emerged as

a prestigious brand and more and more people within and outside the country are using this, the Governor said.

Stating that khadi has a special significance in the country as it is a proud legacy of the national freedom movement and of Mahatma Gandhi, the Governor said that khadi is a hand-spun, hand-woven, and skin-friendly fabric.

Khadi is loved by all those who want to wear clothes that have a positive health impact. Khadi should be cherished and promoted as part of our legacy. Using khadi products provides employment and hence food to poor people, who spin and weave khadi clothes. It is eco-friendly, porous and made of cotton and thus healthful, besides being austere and simple. It is a statement about your lifestyle and values and at the same time, connects you to the freedom movement, to Gandhi and to all those who believe in his values, he added.

The Governor appealed to all individuals, ministers, MLAs, officers, etc., to start using khadi products and also to popularise khadi. I also appeal to all government employees to wear khadi at least once in a week and be proud of using khadi products,

he said.
