Gourangalal Das new envoy to Taiwan

NEW DELHI, July 14 - Amid mounting tension between India and China, New Delhi has deputed a senior Assamese diplomat Gourangalal Das to Taiwan. Das hails from Barpeta and has reached Taipei. He will assume charge after official announcement and at the end of quarantine period in Taiwan.

Prior to his new assignment, Das was serving as the joint secretary of Americas division in the Ministry of External Affairs.

Gourangalal Das is the new Director-General of India Taipei Association, a representative office of India in Taipei. Das will replace Sridharan Madhusudhan.

India has no formal diplomatic ties with Taiwan and supports the one-China policy.

Earlier, Das had worked in different capacities in Beijing and Washington, besides serving in the office of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
