Gorkhas integral part of Assamese society: Gogoi

BISWANATH CHARIALI, Jan 22 � The Gorkhas residing in Assam have been an integral part of the Assamese society. They have contributed much to the fields of literature, economic development, communal harmony and even to the freedom struggle of the State. This was observed by Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi today at Galia, Biswanath Chariali. He was taking part as the chief guest in the open session of 25th triennial conference of Asam Gorkha Sammelan that concluded today.

Praising the Gorkhas, Gogoi said that they are famous throughout the world for their loyalty, sincerity, fighting spirit and courage. He also stressed upon the generation of employment and setting up of industries in the State for speedy development. Several development councils have been formed among ethnic groups in the State for economic uplift of them which is unique of its kind and are not seen in other states.

The open session was presided over by its president Mani Kumar Subba while it was inaugurated by Dr Narayan Upadhyay, HoD, Deptt of Neurology, AMC, Dibrugarh. The CM also donated Rs 1 lakh to the conference. State minister TB Rai, DC, Sonitpur, TC Sharma, MLAs Pallab Lochan Das, Prabin Hazarika, Rajen Borthakur, etc were also present.
