Goodwill mission evoking positive response

UDALGURI, July 29 � The goodwill mission launched by the Udalguri district administration with the close association of Udalguri district Bodo Sahitya Sabha, Udalguri district Sahitya Sabha, ABSU, AAMSU and All India Santhali Parishad has been evoking positive response in keeping the environment of communal peace and harmony in the region since last week in every nook and corner of the district.

The goodwill mission team headed by Thaneswar Malakar, Deputy Commissioner of Udalguri district, visited Rowta and Dalgaon areas under Udalguri district on July 28 last and spread the message of communal harmony. Zakir Hussain, education secretary of All Assam Minority Students� Union (AAMSU) in a meeting held at Bechimari sang the immortal songs of Dr Bhupen Hazarika on communal harmony and appealed to the people of the region to live peacefully keeping mutual understanding with each other.

The meet presided over by Thaneswar Malakar, DC of Udalguri, was also addressed by Dipen Boro, adviser of ABSU, Udalguri district committee, Buddhiram Boro, president of Udalguri district ABSU, Neelakanta Goyary, president of Udalguri district committee of Bodo Sahitya Sabha, Manik Sarmah, president of Udalguri district committee of Asam Sahitya Sabha and Benjamin Soren, adviser of All India Santhali Parishad.

The Deputy Commissioner on return from the goodwill mission reviewed the law-and-order situation and adequate security measures with the Superintendent of Police of Udalguri and army officers and directed them to keep sharp vigil in and around the district to check any evil design of the miscreants following the recent Kokrajhar, Dhubri and Chirang district incidents.

Meanwhile, the district magistrate of Udalguri directed to close all beer bars and wineshops of the district by 8 pm until further order under Section 144 CrPC.
