Golden jubilee of North Bank College from today

DHEMAJI, Jan 9 � The North Bank College at Ghilamara, one of the premier higher educational institutions in undivided Lakhimpur district, is going to celebrate its golden jubilee from tomorrow with a three-day programme. The reception committee constituted in this connection with MP Ranee Narah as president, Golap Gohain as executive president and principal Dr Sanjeeb Malla Bujarborua as secretary is pulling out all stops to make the celebration successful.

According to the agenda, the golden jubilee celebration of the college will commence on January 10 with the unfurling of the flag at 8 am, which will be followed by smriti tarpan as well as unveiling of the archway of the exhibition arranged on the occasion.

At 11 am, ADC Khagen Borgohain will inaugurate the conference of the ex-teachers and students of the college which will be followed by an intimate interaction among the former and present students of the college.

In the evening, a cultural show will be organised which will be inaugurated by Dr Nityananda Gogoi, retired principal of the Biswanath College.

On the second day, an educational seminar on �Present trend of higher education and its reformation� will be held under the guidance of Dr Dayananda Pathak, principal of the Pragjyotish College, Guwahati, which will be inaugurated by Khanindra Choudhury, SDO (Civil), Dhakuakhana. The seminar will be attended by Dr Dinesh Baishya, principal of B Borooah College, Guwahati, Dr Jayanta Boruah, Reader in the Department of Assamese, Dibrugarh University and Dr Harish Deka, retired professor of Mangaldai College.

The annual college magazine will be released by Bidyawati Gogoi. In the evening, Mising Sahitya Sabha vice president Khageswar Pegu will inaugurate the second cultural show.

On the concluding day, a cultural procession will be taken out at 10 am, which will be followed by unveiling of the souvenir of the golden jubilee by Jiban Dutta, Inspector of Schools, Lakhimpur district.

The open session to be held at 1.30 pm under the presidentship of MP Ranee Narah will be inaugurated by Lakhimpur DC Jayanta Narlikar. As informed by the celebration committee, Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi will grace the open session as the chief guest while Education Minister Gautom Bora, Cabinet Minister Bharat Chandra Narah, vice chancellor of the Dibrugarh University Dr Kandarpa Kumar Deka and Sarbeswar Chandra Roy, Deputy Secretary, UGC, North-East Regional Office, Guwahati will attend the session as distinguished guests.

Dr Golap Hazarika, Director of College Development Council, Dibrugarh University, will participate in the open session as the appointed speaker while Naren Changmai, president of Assam College Teachers� Association will be the invited guest.

In the evening, SP Prasanta Sagar Changmai will inaugurate the concluding cultural show.

The celebration committee has solicited the presence and cooperation of the people of the area irrespective of caste and community to make the golden jubilee function of the college a grand success.
