Golden jubilee of Mangaldai trade body

MANGALDAI, Feb 21 � The year-long celebration of the golden jubilee of the Mangaldai Chambers of Commerce (MCC) ended recently with a cultural programme at the District Library auditorium here. Manoj Kumar, Darrang Deputy Commissioner, inaugurated the cultural show in the presence of a large audience including hundreds of members of the local business community.

The DC, in his speech, explained the correlation between commerce and culture. He pointed out that commerce helps people to get traditional items like the gamosa or the japi during the time of celebrating Bihu. The DC praised the MCC for its commitment towards the society.

Prior to the inaugural function, MCC president Chandra Chakraborty, along with prominent businessmen Sambhu Saha, Birendra Barua, senior citizen Harendra Nath Sarma, journalist Bhargab Kumar Das, industrialist and MCC secretary Mukul Chandra Deka, lit the ceremonial lamps.

The cultural show featured various programmes including singing by local artistes, presentation of group dances on Satriya, Rabindra Sangeet and modern Assamese songs, presentation of mime and comedy shows by the artistes of the popular TV comedy serial, Khaplang Kai, etc.

The highlight of the show was the presentation of a chorus, �Manuhe Manuhor Babe, Jadihe Akano Nabhabe,� Dr Bhupen Hazarika�s immortal creation, by MCC members, both old and young. A souvenir titled Banik Bandhan, edited by Debojit Nath, was released by Pradip Das, president of the golden jubilee celebration committee of the MCC. Winners of the drawing competitions among school students were also awarded.
