By Correspondent

IMPHAL, July 29 - Twenty five gold biscuits worth around Rs 1.20 crore were seized from four alleged smugglers in Manipur, Customs officials said.

The seizure of the gold weighing around 4,150 gram was made by officers of Customs Preventive Force, Pallel following a check on a van at Pallel, 50 km from Imphal on Friday, they said.

The new trend of detecting smuggling of gold bars of foreign origin could be because of the market rate difference of nearly Rs 3 lakh per kilogram, according to the officers.

Four persons including a juvenile were arrested in this connection and the van seized.

So far, gold weighing around 200 kg and worth more than Rs 100 crore have been seized by the Customs officials stationed in Manipur.
