Golaghat admin�s appeal for free and fair polls

GOLAGHAT, March 10 - The Golaghat district administration is all set for the Assembly elections, scheduled to be be held next month. The two Assembly constituencies of Golaghat district � No. 95 Golaghat LAC and No. 96 Khumtai LAC � will go to polls on April 4, the Golaghat DC informed media persons.

The district administration held a discussion with leaders of political parties regarding the holding of free and fair elections. Anuwarul Haque, Deputy Commissioner and District Election Officer, appealed to media persons and leaders of political parties for cooperation in this regard.

It may be mentioned here that the election ordinance will be issued on March 11 for No. 95 Golaghat LAC and No. 96 Khumtai LAC. Candidates can file their nomination papers up to March 18. The papers will be scrutinized on March 19, while the last day for withdrawal of candidature is March 21. The voting will be held on April 4.

The entire election process must be completed before May 21. In Golaghat constituency, the number of polling stations is 379 and the number of voters stands at 1,73,145. The total voters of Khumtai Assembly Constituency are 1,19,294.

For the smooth conduct of the election process, the Golaghat LAC has been divided into seven sectors and 21 sub-sectors. Among the polling stations of Golaghat LAC, 45 have been identified as sensitive, 17 as very sensitive and two as very very sensitive. The polling stations of Khumtai LAC have been divided into four sectors and 14 sub-sectors. Among the polling stations, 23 have been marked sensitive and five very very sensitive.

The district administration had constituted several cells for the smooth holding of the elections, the DC said. The administration has installed a control room with a number, 03774-283282 and another toll free number, 1077, to lodge poll-related allegations, he added.
