NEW DELHI, Nov 5 The much-awaited Cabinet reshuffle may be delayed further as the Congress high command is yet to approve the list of candidates submitted by Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi last week.

Sources said that a strategy session convened by Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi last week and attended, among others, by the political secretary to the Congress president, Ahmed Patel, general secretary in charge of Assam, Dr CP Joshi, APCC president Bhubaneswar Kalita and several other national leaders, it was decided to go for long-term changes in Assam to prepare the party for the Assembly polls of 2016.

Sources said that a report submitted by the AICC general secretary to look at the option of change of leadership in Assam or alternately to appoint a Deputy Chief Minister to assist Gogoi in his functioning.

The meeting left it to the Congress vice president to take a call on the issue. As a final decision has not been taken by Gandhi, the reshuffle has been kept pending, said the sources.

The Chief Minister has been facing bouts of opposition from within and his detractors have painted a dismal picture before the high command about the fate of the Congress in 2016, rattling the president and the vice president, added the sources.
