Gogoi to take up Guv issue with President

By Spl Correspondent

NEW DELHI, Nov 26 - Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi has sought appointment with President Pranab Mukherjee to lodge a complaint against Governor PB Acharya.

Talking to newsmen, the Chief Minister said he would try to meet the President on Friday to demand recall of the Governor. The spat between the BJP-appointed Governor and the Chief Minister has escalated following Acharyas Hindustan is for Hindus remark.

The Governor has forgotten that he is a Constitutional head. He is still behaving like an RSS Pracharak. The sooner he is recalled the better for Assam. Otherwise, he will create more trouble in the State, Gogoi said.

He also said that he would invite the President to present the Sankardev Award.

Meanwhile, Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi is likely to visit Assam on December 11 and 12 to formally kick off the Congress partys election campaign.

The schedule was finalised when the Chief Minister called on him here this afternoon. He was earlier scheduled to visit Assam on November 26 and 27. Gogoi, without getting into details, said he briefed Rahul Gandhi about the political scenario in the State.

There has been an upheaval among the State Congress leaders after the BJP revamped its organisation in the State. The Chief Minister, however, downplayed the appointment of Sarbananda Sonowal as the State BJP president. We dont feel threatened, he said.

When asked about the possibility of forming a grand alliance in Assam, Gogoi gave an evasive reply. He also did not give a clear answer to a question on the possibility of entering into a seat-sharing arrangement with the AIUDF.

The Chief Minister was critical of AIUDF chief Badruddin Ajmal, alleging that he has an understanding with the BJP in Assam.

The Chief Ministers outburst is understandable given that a group of Congress leaders are reportedly planning to join the AIUDF early next month.
