Gogoi thanks voters

GUWAHATI, May 13 � Registering a convincing hat trick in the Assembly elections that witnessed a lot of speculation, the Tarun Gogoi led Congress government has attributed its landslide victory to the electorate and has extended its gratitude to the voters for reaffirming their faith on the leadership of Gogoi.

Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi himself expressed his gratitude to the people of the State while addressing the huge gathering of Congress workers at the Rajiv Bhawan campus here. He assured the people that the Congress government would work for development and peace and for resolution of the burning problems of Assam.

As soon as Gogoi set foot inside Rajiv Bhawan, the crowd went into a frenzy and welcomed him with thunderous applause, bursting crackers and chanting slogans. This was the culmination of the day long celebrations that had begun since early morning.

For the Congress workers, the day had started with offering of prayers and holding of Maha Mritunjay Yajna, and as the day progressed and it was obvious that the party was moving towards another win, the merriment became more boisterous. Women members of the party broke into impromptu dances, the young men swayed to the beating of the dhak, and the sound of the trumpet was loud and confident.

The winning candidates who came to Rajiv Bhawan were provided a hero�s welcome and prasad, puri-sabji and halwa was free flowing as everyone feasted and savoured the delicacy of a third consecutive win by the party.

The Chief Minister who was visibly overjoyed said that the Congress would not led down the trust of the people who have entrusted the responsibility of governance to it. �The people of Assam are satisfied with the performance of the Congress government and so they gave us the mandate for the third time,� said Gogoi, promising that his government would give topmost priority towards solving the problems of unemployment, flood, erosion etc.

Gogoi further said that the people of Assam want peace and he appealed to all the insurgent groups, including ULFA c-in-c Paresh Baruah to come to the discussion table.

On the other hand, Gogoi remarking about the miserable performance of AGP and BJP said that the people rejected the Opposition parties as they had failed to play their required role and he suggested the Opposition to go for introspection and work on their drawbacks.

Gogoi said that the BPF has always been a friend and will remain an ally of the Congress. He also thanked the State employees and said that it was through their cooperation that the Congress government could successfully implement the various welfare schemes.

APCC president Bhubaneshwar Kalita said that the calculation game of the Opposition has failed and the people of Assam have established their faith in the Congress.
