Gogoi lacks minimum knowledge: Mahanta

By staff reporter

GUWAHATI, Sept 17 Two-time former Chief Minister Prafulla Kumar Mahanta today hit back at Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi alleging that the latter lacks even the bare minimum knowledge about Indo-Bangla border scenario as evident by contradictory statements made by the Chief Minister and his Ministers.

This comes after Gogoi had dared Mahanta to accompany him on a visit to the Indo-Bangla border.

Gogoi and his Ministers have once again been trying to mislead people by misrepresenting the facts that fencing was the international border between India and Bangladesh. The Chief Minister and his Minister responsible for Assam Accord implementation should tender an unconditional apology to the people of the State for misleading them, Mahanta said at a press conference today.

Mahanta further demanded Gogoi to make public the text of the Indo-Bangla land-swap deal. We, the people of the State are still in dark about the text of the deal. The repeated misleading statements made by Gogoi has forced us to feel that Gogoi has given enclaves of fertile lands to the neighbouring country and brought some voters by accepting a few villages, the AGP leader stated.

Now after signing the agreement, he wants us to visit the border with him. Had he done this before going to Dhaka, his faith in democracy would have reflected. Even after signing the deal, his first duty was to let the people know about the details of the agreement but preferred to enjoy his trip abroad, he rued.

The AGP leader also appealed to the Chief Minister to table the agreement on the floor of Assam Assembly.
